Every year I make about 6 different kinds of cookies for the holidays. This was usually done on a Sunday afternoon with my daughter and sister - kind of a tradition - Since my daughter is now living 1800 miles away, and my sister is extremely busy - I have decided to make the cookies ahead of time and freeze them..... Which bring me to my question - I have never done this before - any tips? hints? suggestions? Many thanks~ "Do I have to be good ALL the time?"

I have heard that some people will freeze the cookies on a sheet pan first, then pop them into ziploc bags before placing them in the freezer. This makes them easier to seperate when you just want a handful of each kind later on. I personally just put them in ziploc bags and then into tins, then I keep them in a cool room until their needed. If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you. Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.

My favorite recipe for cookies, which I learned.. maybe a few years ago? Is for Stained glass cookies You get a bag of jolly ranchers or some other transluscent hard candy (I used lifesavers I believe to good effect) and put it all in a ziplock bag. Get a hammer And SMASHITALL! Then you can sprinkle the candy bits across the cookies before you bake and the hard candy will melt and it's exciting and slightly crunchy. The bigger bits make cool stained glass looking things while the smaller bits just look like sprinkles. ...but you weren't asking for recipes. Were you? Ah well, stress relief's also a part of holiday baking. As to freezing the cookies I've not done it, but I'm sure it could be done. If not there's always last minute slice and bake to cover for learning mistakes. Best of luck! |

The food network has a great 12 days of cookie recipes..I have 5 of them so far. They will e-mail them to you. Pink Freezer bags should work well. Most cookies you can freeze for up to 3 months. |

Just finished making "Chinese Noodle Cookies", and "Chocolate gingerbread cookies" (and I didn't even eat one!!! - no small feat) Thanks for the tip Tammy - I found 2 cookie tins in my attic and I read that all I need to do is cool them completely, then put in freezer bags, or layer them between wax paper in the tins. I had only planned on making 6........but now you have me thinking....12? YUMMMMM!!

Pink--it's not so much that they're delicious cookies, but when the recipe says you get to smash everything with a hammer, it certainly helps relieve holiday stress in the kitchen. So wax paper will work as well as ziplock bags for freezing them? Fabulous. |

Yup waxed paper in layers works wonderfully - I start baking in the beginning of November, since I make so much. Couldn't manage without my freezer. But then I do all the baking for most of our friends as well as ourselves. |
