If I were in Hawaii and dropped a bowling ball in a bucket of water which is 45 degrees F, and dropped another ball of the same weight, mass, and size in a bucket at 30 degrees F, both of them at the same time, which ball would hit the bottom of the bucket first? Same question, but the location is in Canada? |

I think with both questions the answer would be the same wouldn't it? The ball in the bucket of 45 degree F water hits the bottom of the bucket first. The 30 degree F water is frozen, and the ball would stop when it hit the ice. **good one!!! "Do I have to be good ALL the time?"

the only thing is that the hardest part of that would be finding a thermometer in Canada that shows Farenheit as we usually use Centigrade. |

I had this as a brain teaser before and the answer Pink gave was the correct one then. At 30 degrees the water should be frozen which should stop the ball from dropping to the bottom no matter where you are. What's different here? Is there no water in the second bucket to slow the ball down? (Message edited by bethie on May 02, 2007) |

mmmmmmm...........**thinking..... Even if the water was not frozen solid, wouldn't it at least stop the bowling ball enough that it would not hit the bottom of the bucket first? Or.......does it have something to do with F and C degrees? (shouldn't though) Or.......maybe Bethie is right and it has to do with water? Or.......oh heck....I don't know (lol) "Do I have to be good ALL the time?"

Where in the riddle did it say the second bucket had water in it??? Both questions, same answer: the ball in the bucket of 45 degree F water hits the bottom of the bucket last. Did you think that the water in the 30 degree F bucket is frozen? Think again. The question said nothing about that bucket having anything in it. Therefore, there is no water (or ice) to slow the ball down... |
