I really need some help!! I want to make (from Scratch) a German Chocolate cake for my Birthday tomorrow and I can't find my recepie. Yes I know the internet is full of them, but I want one that someone has actually used and that is really good. I need the recepie for the coconut frosting too thats my favorite part!! Anyone have a good receipe to share with me?? |

Ack! I can't find my recipe either! You know what's funny though? I wanted to make a german chocolate cake this week, too, but when I couldn't find my recipe I just started looking online for one that sounded similar. I couldn't tell you how many recipes I've looked at! I hope someone out there has one they can vouch for! |

I wish I could help. Unfortunately, my baking skills are such that my recipes generally include a trip to the nearest grocery store and a walk down the cake mix and boxed icing aisle. |

Maren, at this rate I may have to! I found one recipe that sounds like the one I have used in the past but I'm not sure it's exactly right. I think I'll try it anyway. German Chocolate Cake Ingredients: 4 ounces German sweet chocolate squares 1/2 cup boiling water 1 cup butter 2 cups granulated sugar 4 eggs separated 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup buttermilk Icing: 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk 1/2 cup water 3 egg yolks 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1-1/3 cups pecans chopped 10 whole pecans halves for garnish 1-3/4 cup flaked coconut Directions: Melt chocolate in water then cool. Cream butter and sugar then beat in egg yolks. Stir in vanilla and chocolate. Mix flour, soda and salt then beat in flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form then fold into batter. Pour batter into three cake pans lined on bottoms with waxed paper. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes then cool 15 minutes and remove and totally cool on wire rack. Icing: Cook milk, eggs, and water over a double boiler until thickened. Add vanilla and butter then whisk until it is melted and smooth. Add the chopped pecans and coconut. Spread between layers and over tops and sides of cake. Garnish with pecan halves. ------------------------------------- It sounds good so maybe it'll be okay. |

Tammy, nice pic, huh? Btw, how did that cake turn out? Unluckily I'm not at my best this week so I'm not going to be able to bake mine. It seems no one wants a cake baked by a woman who's oozing cold germs. Go figure! |
