uh-oh...Hubby had his checkup with the doctor and he has to eat more fish! I love it, but he doesnt...any good recipes out there? I need help~~ "Thought I WAS being a good girl...really I did!"

Mmmm...fish, yummy! I'd just start with a basic cookbook like The Joy of Cooking. Ask him why he doesn't think he likes fish - too strong, too dry, etc.,and plan around that. Good fresh fish cooked well is really delightful. You can have fun changing his mind. Reader Girl

I love fish! I would like to know why he doesnt like it before I come up with some recipes. If its the strong odor, Tilapia has very little fishy smell and is a nice firm, white fish that you can fry, bake, poach or broil. I cook fish all the time Pink, let me know what he objects to. When I asked him why he didn't like fish, he said "I just never got into eating it". Now, I know his Mom and Dad used to cook it - he just prefered meat instead. I think it might be the smell...so I am looking for something that I can grill, bake, or broil....kinda "doctor it up" so it doesnt LOOK like fish...make sense? PS...thanks for the suggests! "Thought I WAS being a good girl...really I did!"

Shark is a very firm fish with little fishy smell, and tastes great grilled with BBQ sauce. Tuna soaked in terikayi sauce and grilled is as good as steak. I love salmon poached in white wine with a little dill and lemon. Its also excellent grilled after being marinated in teriyaki sauce or any herb/garlic marinade. Shrimp, scallops and a mild white fish cooked in a bottled alfredo sauce and served over pasta is quite yummy as well. Can you tell I love to eat? Eel is great with barbecue sauce. I'm melting thinking about it. But yeah, tuna steaks are great, salmon's more meaty than fishy.. and grouper :D tilapia and cod aren't horridly fishy, and tilapia takes spices very well. Ah, Wolfie--have you ever had wolffish... (and I'm not asking because of it's name, I didn't realise that prior to asking actually ^_^; ), but it's a fish that eats lobster *-* divine! divine! so divine~. Serve it with a nice butter, maybe some rock shrimp on the side and I'm sold on whatever someone's selling. ...barbecue shark... what a great concept. ...I'd veer away from octopus XD |

**drools** These ideas are soooooooooooo great -- now I DEFINATELY want fish for dinner (of course "R" has a late meeting, so you know what we will be having Friday night). I don't think I will try the eel, shark, or octopus on him just yet....I'm gonna stick with the simple stuff. You guys have given me some wonderful ideas..thanks so much "Thought I WAS being a good girl...really I did!"

Sword fish(fresh or get something else), marinated overnight in a Greek or Italian salad dressing. Cooked on the outdoor barbeque. If he's like me, it can't taste too much like fish. Try it. Is IT Better To Give Than To Recieve?

Ma_vie, Ive never heard of wolf-fish. Sounds delicious! We have a fish in our markets called monkfish...its supposed to taste just like lobster. My favorite! Check out Food TV, Bobby Flay has done some excellent grilling of fish on Boy Meets Grill. It's my favorite channel, and would cry if it went away |

Heres a quick and easy for any fryable fish... House Autry Fish Breader (I prefer the med/hot) Natures Seasons season salt (to taste) Chili Powder (a dash will get rid of the taste left behind by freezing - being that I catch my own, even grocery store fish that has been frozen bothers me) When using frozen fish, allow it to thaw to room temp over time, unaccelerated. Whip up an eggwash, dredge fillets in eggwash, place in large bowl with breader in it. Shake to get a thin coat of breader on the fish (or if you prefer, use fingers to pat more breader on). Drop fish in 350 degree oil 3-5 minutes per side. I specifically use this recipe for Catfish, Flounder, Red Drum, Bluegill, Crappie, Speckled Trout, and Striped Bass. Italian Dressing as mentioned before is a great marinade on firmer fish, such as Striped Bass, Red Drum, Grouper, etc. Grilled or Broiled. Pan seared rare tuna is the food of the gods, IMO. A little bit of soy/butter during searing and wasabi afterwards...yum. Just watch out for the smoke alarms when you are searing. Also bear in mind you need sashimi grade tuna for this.
