I loved Anne Ramplings Exit to Eden but was insulted when the film adaptation came out. It was an insult to me. They took everything that was important to me out. it took my fetish and made a joke of it.

Im sorry you feel that way Laszlo. I havent read the book, so dont know how the original went. I have to say though that I liked the movie, and although I agree they made fun of bdsm, spanking and such, I took it in the spirit of fun. :-)

I didn't read the book, but saw the movie, and found it funny.

I didn't think it put the lifestyle in a horribly bad light, as much as made it fun. I found the bedroom scene, with the two main characters, with the man tied and sprawled, as quite sensual. The fact that they fell in love, and were brought together from their interests/fetish, made it a more positive result, based on previous movies that I've seen over the years. Just look at all the CSI and Law and Orders that always have someone end up dead as part of their involvement in BDSM.

Now "The Secretary" made a complete mockery of almost every fetish possible, but that's another thread that's probably been talked to death.

Most movies don't match the book. Was the book meant to be a comedy too?

PS Overall, I wouldn't recomment Exit to Eden to anyone, but didn't think it was horribly disappointing...but just a run of the mill movie, for entertainment only. I'm not a Rosie fan.
