Patrick was visiting Sweden. The lovely young lady assigned to show him around was very emphatic whilst describing her country’s new feminism: how in modern Sweden the basic idea is that the male always obeys the female. Ever the gentleman, he listened carefully, even though he was more than half amused. No wonder outside influences were taking over! No matter how hard he tried, Patrick just could not get himself around her name: Birgit. His Irish tongue insisted on saying Bridget. Finally, while showing him a lovely garden, her temper got the best of her. “Birgit!” she cried, stamping her little foot. “Listen carefully now: ‘Birch it’.” In deference to the mores of his host, he plucked a few twigs from a nearby tree, held her under his arm, swept her skirt up over her head and her knickers down about her knees, and did exactly as he was told. |
