Hey Blue, You got me all wrong...I am far from a wimp - he is just very talented with it. Reader_girl - the reason for the shellac is so that you don't get splinters and to be honest it makes the stick stronger. You see, you get them in the paint store for free - if you ask nicely - and, therefore, they are not as strong without the shellac.

A couple of years ago Hubby and I went to a home center to buy some paint and there was a couple ahead of us and they bought paint in a 5 gallon container, the clerk gave then a nice 5 gallon size paint paddle and the husband asked if he could have another one, he turned to his wife and told her the second paddle was for her bottom, her face got red and she turned her face the other way as they left the store. the clerk just smiled and shook her head, and I was so thankful Hubby never said a word.

I've let a comment slip, twice, and found the people quite receptive. One time I was at Value Village checking out for a new spanking implement in the kitchen area. I came across a rubbery type plastic, probably a bowl scraper, thing. I swung it a bit to check the weight (it's weighty), and said, "That would hurt". There was a guy (older gentleman) standing beside me that was payin' attention to me and he said "That would depend on who was usin' it". I smiled and went and made my purchase, and yes it stings very nastily! The other time I was buying paint at Home Depot and the guy handed me a paint stick and I said "That won't hurt", kinda whiney like and he said "Well, here I can give you 4 or 5", (he said it quite seriously) then I said "Oh then that'll hurt TOO much". Then he cracked a big smile and gave me 4. |

I just remembered what kind of paint stick really hurts. One that you've been using to stir the paint with and has about 5 coats of paint on it! |

I work for the IRS (please don't hate me) and we use the paint sticks for markers when you take a file. So I am with surrounded by them all day. Some even have my name on them. It is so hard not to ask someone just to swat me with it. We joked around about it today but talk about sexual harrassment in the work place. I can see the headlines. "IRS worker fired for begging coworkers to spank her" Oh well I'll just have to ask honey for another spanking soon. |

I'm thinking about it along with some other homemade implements. Again, still on a search for those residuals! I mean, really, it hurts just as much while it's happening (the part I *don't* like) but then there's nothing left a few hours later (the part I *do* like)! That just doesn't seem fair...{pout, pout} "It was something magic out of something frightening. That's how I live my life, I take it as it comes. Keep working at it, Otter ~ you will find what makes the owie's last longer. One of the things you could do is do those buns exercises that makes your muscles really taunt. Most of the time when I end up with the residuals it is because the session has been slow and long. |

A while ago for an art project, I shellacked a strip of fabric, It got stiff... you've inspired me to try making a paddle out of multiple layers of shellacked fabric. It'd be light, and could be gorgeous, but I wonder if it would sting. |
