DIL had the good sense to go into labor on a Saturday night hence a 30 mile trip to the hospital which COULD have taken me 4 hr. in DC rush hour traffic (the dreaded Beltway) took only 20 at 8AM this morning. OK, I was exceeding the speed limit. 6lb 12 oz girl Kaytlan Rose Libert. Mom had to have an emergency c-section after hours of labor, a face up presentation of the baby and a dropping fetal heart beat. All is well, I am pooped. At least SOMEONE got spanked today and she cried lustfully! Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance

Congratulations, Changeling! That's wonderful and I'm glad mom and baby are doing well! Ohh I'm so happy for all of you. She has a lovely name, too. |

Thanks. I really can't say anything about the parent's choice of names. After all in 1971 I named my son MORGAN..which was quite a strange name at the time. She opened her eyes for the first time while in my arms.... yeah, this stoic lady got all teary eyed. Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance

Congratulations Changeling! I hope you enjoy being a grandmother. If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you. Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.

Congratulations! Our daughter's delivery ended up being an emergency too. She was due around Dec. 27, 2003. Throughout November, the OB/GYN had been a little concerned that my wife's BP was slowly but steadily increasing (I'm thinking 140/90). On Thanksgiving, she had what she thought was a bad bout of indigestion (not surprising on that particular holiday). Saturday, it happened again, and worse. We had an appointment Monday morning (Dec. 1), so we told the OB about it. He checked her BP whiich was now up over 160, and after putting her on the fetal monitor, had us go next door to the hospital. Turns out she was going into pre-eclampsia, and our daughter was born a few hours later via C-section with a full high-risk delivery team...the ultrasound they did that morning estimated her at 5 pounds based on her head diameter, but she was actually just over 7 pounds, so no worries. And as far as names go, we picked a somewhat unusual name ourselves. My wife's name and my name are both in the top 5 most popular names for 1970-1980, so we wanted our daughter's to be less common. Again, congrats! As you slide down the banisters of life may the splinters never point the wrong way. Old Irish Proverb

Even funnier was today... The men were away and mom was getting breast feeding lessons from the 'lactation specialist' (guess they've got a specialist for EVERYTHING now) Evidently DIL has small nipples and baby hasn't got the hang of it yet...the other Grandma says it was inherited from HER family and proceeded to bare hers! Not to be left out I opined maybe my grand daughter would inherit MINE and showed em!! The RN approved heartily of my anatomy. Forget burning your bras this was a 'nipple in'!!! I held her again while all of us ladies snoozed for a bit. DAMN...if they could only give this 59yo lady a 'shot' of some hormone I would so like to have nursed that baby this afternoon. Guess being a grandmother has finally kicked in. Thanks all Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance
