Not one of the ladies, but I have read Gabaldon up through Dragonfly in Amber (some years ago). My wife and I recently bought the entire series and they're on my list to read again. Mostly I read sci-fi, particularly what's generally termed "space opera". I'm a big fan of David Weber's Honor Harrington series. I also like WWII historical fiction, and have recently become a fan of 18th century British naval fiction (like Horatio Hornblower). Than you've read the 'Master and Commander' books. SO much better than the movie (imho) Have you tried any Neil Stephenson??? Gaiman?? or (blush) Gor. I was at the washington book festival last fall and saw HER. A totally unpretentious and open lady. Got her to sign 'breath of snow and ashes' I may not live long enough to read the whole series..she writes slowly. Unlike Stephenson who wrote the whole Baroque trilogy and issued them at 9 mo intervals. SHE is how I got to Scotland...the standing stones at Clava Cairns were AWESOME. You MUST go.... That's how I got my name..a changeling is a fairy baby exchanged for a human... I was adopted so find it appropriate. Still looking for my SILKIE Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance

I haven't started reading the Aubrey/Maturin series yet...have only seen the movie so far unfortunately. A friend lent me one of the Hornblower blooks and one from Alexander Kent's Bolitho series, but that's it so far. As you slide down the banisters of life may the splinters never point the wrong way. Ive never read Gabaldon, but now I definitely will. Which would be a good book to start with? I love romance, westerns and fantasy/sci fi. Favorite authors are...Johanna Lindsey, Christine Feehan, Janet Chapman, Anne McCaffrey, Piers Anthony, Barbara Hambley, Nora Roberts, and Susan Bangs. Yes, I have read some of the Gor books. Changeling Im adopted too, so I understand your references. Are you looking for a silkie, or a selkie? If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you. Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.

Oooooo Wolfie!!! You're in for a ride! Start at the beginning...OUTLANDER. Gabaldon is romance (NOT harlequin etc), sci-fi (time travel) and well researched historical fiction wrapped up in one big glorious package. No spoilers here! Hie on doon to the library or used book store and enjoy. Her books are where I discovered my 'handle' I recently read two Gor's and was not majorly impressed, not much of a plot and rather repetitious on the slave mentality thing. Probably would have found them more tittilating when I was a teenager. I think the spelling of silie is variable depending on the translation from the gaelic.. always loved that old Childe's ballad sung by Baez in the 60's. Being adopted (to me) means I don't come with any baggage. Once I got over the 'finding my birth parents' thing I realized I was totally free to be ME. Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance

Ok, Outlander it is...I love these kinds of stories! I did read Gor as a teenager, and while I loved the submission and occasional spanking, his abuse and humiliation of women killed it for me. I just knew there had to be something better out there. I think your right about the spelling of selkie. Did you see that movie that was on tv a couple of years back about the selkie who whose skin was found by a fisherman? It was pretty good. If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you. Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.

no..never saw it wish I had.Do you remember the name??? 'I am a man upon the land I am a selkie in the sea and when I'm far and far frae' land my home it is in sule skerrie' that's how I rmember the Baez lyrics. That series of books landed me on another board and got me to Scotland 6 years ago... I KNOW you will enjoy them. I picked up the 4th in the series randomly at the library..realized IMMEDIATELY I was starting in the middle and went back to grab all the previous books. I'm an avid reader and was majorly pleased. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!! Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance
