I have been thinking for a while about starting a chat room designed for us spankos. It would be open all the time and people could come and go as they pleased. Any input?

That would be lots of fun, Kryssi. Maybe we would have to make some speicified times to meet as it seems we are all here at different times.
Oh dear, instead of sending me to my room, I would hate to be sent to the "live" chat room!!

I would love to get a chat room going, but I don't want to interfere with what we have here.. I don't want the den to die because we have a live chat room. Sorry I led you guys on like that.

The nice thing about this forum as opposed to a chat room is that you don't have to be at your computer for long periods of time though. I have three kids at home, like I'm sure a lot of you all do too, and a live chat would be FUN but difficult to do. This allows for drawn out play over several hours. I could occasionally chat but this forum definitely works best for me.

The biggest problem I've found with chatrooms is the fact that you cannot divorce the premise that there are lurkers reading your every thought as you speak. Perhaps a one-to-one chat set-up, if that was possible? Otherwise what we have here is excellent and always interesting.

It would be possible to set up a chat room which is invite only. By that I mean that each person would have to be invited. It could be time consuming at first, but I think there is a way to set it up so that once someone was allowed in then their ip addy would be stored in the chat memory so they can enter that chat at any time without needing to be reinvited.
Once Bethie gets back I will talk to her and see what she thinks of the whole idea. As I said before I don't want to take away from what we have here, I believe we have such a wonderful family here, and I don't want to take away from that.
My plan for the chat room would be this:
It would only be open 1 day a week.
It would only be open to members of the den. (Registered)
It would be moderated by the moderators of the den, and maybe a few others if moderators aren't available for that day.
These are just a few of my ideas.. I will post the rest once I talk to Bethie

Sounds like a good idea, Kendra. Whatever we come up with, we must avoid some of the chatroom dogma that exists in other areas - particularly the Yahoo Groups and the like, where voyeurism appears to be second only to porn purveyors. Discipline is the name of our game!

i have not seen postings from anyone presently in the forum that i would be wary of. but since this is a semi open forum perhaps a members only group would work with an agreement to not post ugly stuff. |

Anyone can set up a chat channel on IRC- and they can be moderated so trolls are kicked and banned from coming back.
I used to spend hours in a chat room, I loved it.
Sometimes, especially with all the Long Distance relationships in D/s, it would be nice to be able to go 'talk'.
I met my old Dom (and my sub for that matter) in a chat room, months before I met them in real life.
We even had a channel get together one year. |

Great idea Kendra, it's a lot of work and problems arise now and then. I'd surely participate and support it. A few years ago Dan's site got totally destroyed by a flamer hacker that despised us. Best bet is to get help moderating.

I'm an OP in a spanking chat room now. It is VERY time consuming and can be a HUGE hassle if it isn't done right. Be sure that you give this LOTS of thought. |

Why not try a "private" chatroom on the "spankingchat?" You can create a "member" room where the Room Owner (the person first to open the room) must give permission to enter. Those on the site here could be notified of a specific date and time to open the room. Maybe a "secret word" could be posted here, to be used to enter. Try it once a week, and see how it goes. You don't have to register to use the chat feature on that site, and the room would only be temporary anyway. Maybe call in the 'Private Spanking Den.' Just an idea.
This is the quickest, easiest and least complicated method, I would think.
