ok...here is the deal...this surgery has left me with insomnia!! Yeah, one of those little quirks of "menopause". The doctor suggested Tylenol PM, and it works ok...but I really don't want to rely on that (heard it could cause liver problems)...and he also suggested Benadryl. *Sigh* I just want/need sleep! I get tired around 10PM, fall asleep for about an hour, then boom......I am up. Its 11:45PM right now and I am wide awake! I may drift back to sleep, but then I am up again...this goes on all night! It is really reeking havoc with my personality - I am getting to be a bit "bitchy" LOL **please don't suggest a spanking - would love one - but can't do that yet because of the surgery Any suggestions would be most appreciated "Thought I WAS being a good girl...really I did!"

My mother uses Tylenol PM when she can't fall asleep and my father Benadryl. I say that because she went to school to be a nurse and now works in a pharmacy, so she has a lot of pharmaceutical knowledge. Both are supposed to be non-habit forming, so you can safely take them for a few days, if not more. Both should help you not only fall asleep, but STAY asleep. I know Melatonin is also safe (and completely natural as mentioned above . The most important thing is you getting sleep right now! |

Benadryl is a fairly strong antihistamine. Why don,t you try meditation? |

Buenaventura...a good suggestion, but I am not one for meditation (like some people can't get into exercise or yoga) - must be my personality I'm a trainer, so I do exercise - besides I don't even know how to meditate - my mind would be thinking about 1 million things!! **besides, how long does it take to properly meditate? Pinky, Grizz and I use Goodys'PM. But it is for pain also. The package has two powders each but we only take one of the powders. But on the package it states not for use with products containing acetaminophen, diphenthydramine. Other than that the doc prescribed Ativan 1mg. It works good too. I was prescribed that when working two jobs, plus taking care of mother in law. My nerves were a total wreck. One doc said it was the same thing as having one beer. Also has been said it can be habit forming. But we use it ocassionally. I don't know for sure about that because I can't drink due to digestive problems. How about tryptophan? It's the natural stuff in turkey and warm milk that makes you sleepy. Most health food stores carry it. Nothing wrong with a beer or glass of wine a half hour before bed if that helps for a little while. If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you. Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.

Hey Wolfie!! Welcome back - did you have a nice vacation? I have gotten some really neat advice here haven't I? Unfortunately, I am not a beer or wine drinker - so I think I am going to look into something on the "natural" side But keep those suggestions coming!! I do appreciate it! When I had trouble sleeping, warm milk worked good for me. Now I'm on a low-carb diet, I cut 98% of the sugar from my diet (as well as that nasty hydrogenated oil stuff) and my sleep has improved dramatically. I used to toss and turn and wake up repeatedly and get night sweats, now I sleep very well. Also, no more daytime hot flashers (or power surges, whatever you like to call them)! Some day you'll spank me... er thank me for this!

Perhaps you could go to the doctor - he/she give you a few days of some sedation medication, which if given only for a few days will be much easier on the liver. As far as the Tylenol, I wouldn't be severely concerned unless you have 3 or more drinks a week (alcohol.) This can be extremely damaging to the system as alcohol and acetaminophen constitutes a dangerous situation. Hope you are doing better. Katie Spades: The Princess of Spanking

I vote for the melatonin, I started taking it about 6 months ago, it works well. This summer, I teach an autistic 13 yr old. His mother also gives it to him per his doctors suggestion. You can find it in any vitamin shop. A woman`s heart may be filled with an ocean of secrets but mine have all been released and I have a sore bottom to prove it!

Katie...I really don't want to go the route of a sedation med - and I don't have to worry because I don't drink alcohol But I am considering the melatonin. I have cut down on sugar...and I think that is helping too "Thought I WAS being a good girl...really I did!"
