How do you make these and where do you get materials? The handle I can figure out myself but where (what store?) exactly to get rubber or bungee and/or a best brand would really help. TIA! |

What is meant by a "Loopy Johny" is not well defined - one I found on the 'net was more a flogger with the fells made from six or so loops of rubber cord, others were a single loop of rubber or leather about 3/16" diameter with a handle. For single rubbery loops: Some larger pails used for conveying liquids have a round rubber seal in the lid - these have been used by DIY toy makers (though not me) Pails like these can often be obtained from your local fast food places. I have read of using a piece of electrical extension cord in a single loop. Surgical rubber tubing or the flexible plastic tubing used for aquariums might work well, as would a single full bungee cord. For the thinner multiple loops: I make a nice rubber flogger using the rubber cords from bungee cords - if you "shop around" the cheaper ones tend to have thicker and fewer cords inside the braided covering - look at the ends to try and see the cords and feel the bungee cord - the thicker rubber cords can be felt while the thin ones make a rounder (and more expensive) bungee cord. Maybe the nylon monofilament line sold for weed wackers - it is too stiff and kinky as a straight fell for a flogger but maybe it would work if it was constrained in a loop - definitely stingy! Other ideas - cut rubber strips from sheet rubber (tire tubes or the rubber flashings sold for roof vents are sources of sheet rubber) Strip the rubber coating off electrical wires. Various leather thongs, shoe laces, or other braided cords or ropes. Hope these ideas hurt errr help! Let us know how you experiments turn out. |

Peter are you my alter ego? LOL! I figured this out immediately after posting for help yesterday. I would have ordered one off the net but it'd take longer than preferred. So here is what I did for anyone interested, esp. you girlies like me who have no tools or woodworking abilities: Busted handle off a hairbrush as a base then through the preexisting hole at the end of the handle (used for hanging?) I strung thin cord cut from an old charger and tied into loops. When I tested this against my bottom it freaking stung so take care using one of these! |
