In conversation with a friend yesterday, we were discussing if people would be more shocked to have someone admit they were a spanko or gay. First, let me say I am not at all relating the two.
I personally think that more people would be shocked if it was a family member admitting they were a spanko. My nephew recently admitted he has led a gay lifestyle for years and no one blinked an eye. However, if I admitted I am a long term spanko, I think they would suggest psychiatric help.
That said, if the person were a celebrity, I don't think anyone would be shocked with any "secrets" told.

I agree that it would be much more acceptable in our society to be gay rather than a spanko. You are right, those that don't share our feelings regarding spanking as a good thing wouldn't understand. That's why I choose not to tell anyone because I fear being ostricized for it.The only one that needs to know is my husband. |

It does seem that a gay person is more accepted.
I have nothing against a persons sexual preference! By all means...do what your instincts tell you.
But to admit to family, would cause them to try and get me into therapy. They think I'm nuts anyway.
I have to really get to know people before I would attempt to get them to understand the lifestyle the hubby and I have decided on. And if I feel that they wouldn't understand, I don't go there.
We did have a friend come over to the house one day when I was decorating some paddles and she really got upset. I lied to her about us. It was necessary. I just told her that we didn't have to live it but that didn't mean we couldn't profit from it. She accepted that. In no way would she have understood our being spankos.

This is exactly why I came (and stay) at this forum. Spanking is great fun to discuss, but there is no one I would even mention it to.
It is also wonderful to understand that it is a popular fetish and I am not alone in my enjoyment of it.
It seems to me that many vanillas think spankos live in full time dungeons hung upside down, dwelling in the delight of pain.
I'll bet that all of us would be surprised on how many of our neighbors and family members have a secret fetish or two of their own. If not, than there are a whole lot of boring people out there.
