So...I totally love being spanked, but I kind of hate having to act up to get it. Has anyone found a way of pissing off their significant other without having to actually be a brat?

Sorry Lotte, I dont believe in doing something to anger your spanker in order to get spanked. It can be quite dangerous to be spanked by someone who has lost his/her temper, and it certainly leaves them feeling upset and frustrated with your behavior.
Can you talk to your spanker about having a code for those times you want to be spanked for fun or for erotic reasons? That way you wont have to come right out and ask, maybe ruining the mood.

Honestly, Lotte, I don't think most men like the brat approach, it gets old fast.
And pissing someone off? Never go that direction, too much room for real trouble.

Littlelotte over time I would think that you and your SO would discover a method of you provoking in a teasing sort of way that will have him coming after you if in fact he really wants to spank you at that time.
With Mr. B and myself, it is simple things like sticking my tongue out at him, privately so no one else can see. Or talking back to him quietly being serious, but he knows me well enough to know that I am teasing him. NOTE that all of this I say "quietly" because you would not want to cause any embarrassment to him or yourself.
When Mr. B is looking to play and trying to get me to signal that I want a spanking. He will come in and make a statement where I will have to say yes. Then he will say Yes What -- looking for that Yes Sir. When I don't say it to him, he will come after me.
You see it all ends up being sort of a complicated dance between the two people. But it is important to know your SO very well so you can both pick up on each others quiet signs that you send back and forth.
Maybe something like we do will help in your case.
The Spice of Life is having my OWN WAY!! A spanking would be nice.

Oh, I didn't actually mean REALLY pissing him off. See, we have these code words: "pissed off" means we're playing and I'm heading for a spanking and "mad" or "angry" would be when we have a serious problem that we just need to discuss. Kinda forgot the whole world doesn't use my slang....

Why not just "ask" for it?  Or say, "Why don't you just spank me!" Or, bend over in front of him, and smack your own bottom, and say, "How'd you like some of this?" Or say, "You can't touch this!" (Not exactly bratting, but more like a sensual tease, if done a certain way.)
Fanny, I agree with you that most male spankers don't seem to like the brat approach. Most female tops don't appreciate bratting either, unless in the context of role play, when planned. In fact I think women spankers are even MORE opposed to it than the men. The women I know appreciate manly men to spank, not the naughty boy in them.
I like when they just ask for it!

Oh, and..on the bratting topic...the VERY worst incident that I encountered was at Paddles in NYC a few years back. A woman there, that I only knew from another online spanking group decided to "brat." I usually saw her at the spanking parties whenever I went to town. VERY nice lady, but a HUGE Brat!
While at the soda fountain bar, a hunky male Top was seated next to me. I did not know him, except to exchange "hello" when he sat down. He was with his lady. I was with friends.
The "Brat" decided she wanted his attention, even though she had never seen him before in her life. His toy bag, which was more of a cane case, was resting against the bar, in between us.
She took his toy bag. (Now, anyone at all familiar with the lifestyle knows that you NEVER touch what doesn't belong to you. There's a code that most follow, but unfortunately, not all.) She took the bag, and ran with it. She hid it around the corner.
Needless to say, he was more than shocked to find his bag was gone, and felt the need to accuse the closest person there....ME! While he didn't actually "attack"...I surely didn't appreciate it.
I pointed out where his bag was, but didn't point out the culprit, as I felt her actions were enough to get her kicked out of the club, and even though what she did was horrible, I sort of understood her motive (even if misplaced). He DID get his toys back, and her Dom was notified of her actions.
There is bratting for fun, and there is bratting that will REALLY hurt someone. Some people can't figure the difference, and that's why I don't care for Brats. Sometimes their need for "attention" overrides common sense and common courtesy.

I agree with you K, bratting can get out of hand very easily. I think there's a fine line between teasing and bratting (teasing is only verbal) and you have to be careful not to overstep the bounds of common courtesy. Ive never had a problem getting spanked at Paddles, a little teasing of a Top I know and I'm usually hauled off for some playful retribution. 
I find it very difficult to "ask" for a spanking...I think its because I still feel the stigma of being "weird, sick and a pervert". I know its not true, but it keeps me from being as comfortable with my kink as I'd like to be.
Lotte, try sticking your tongue out or saying "You wouldnt dare spank me!" to get a great reaction.

Exactly, Wolfie! I'm not comfortable enough to ask for it yet. It's just...easier to earn a spanking than to request one somehow. When I ask for it, I feel wrong. I'm a newbie, though, so I might get over it.

Some light occassional playful bratting will get you attention, it's the heavy, annoying, constant, irritating bratting that will get you ignored. I think it's because just like with anything, too much can put you off.

Now while y'all have given great examples of bratting, I don't think this is what Littlelotte meant when she asked for advice here. Can we turn the subject back around to what she asked for, please? (I'd move these posts to their own thread, but I've got somewhere to be soon.)

I don't know if this will help but I can tell you some techniques I've used that work pretty well.
I approach spanking like a seduction because that's what it is to me. If I'm in the mood for some action, I'll put a little effort into setting the mood. If I'm planning a longer session, I'll find something cute or sexy to wear and work on setting the right atmosphere. Sometimes that means suggesting watching a spanking video or a show we both enjoy, it doesn't matter as long as it gives us a chance to cuddle on the couch together. I'll get us a couple of drinks and snuggle up to him. There's one particular wine that I love that is a clear signal that I'm in the mood.
Sometimes it just happens but other times I just like to get playful. I'll tease him a little or tickle him or something playful that will cause him to pull me across his knee. He knows what I'm up to so he plays along and before the evening's over, I'll have a well-spanked bottom and be very satisfied.
Even if I'm just looking for a quickie, I've got some tried and true methods. I have a couple of panties that signal to him that my bottom needs some attention. I have one that says "Catch me if you can!" I'll either flash him or wear just the panties. And nothing beats slinking up to him when I'm fresh out of the shower and my bottom is soft and tender from the hot water. He usually notices and says I must be looking for some attention. Of course, if he doesn't notice immediately, leaning over and dripping on him always gets his attention.
If bratting is your preferred method, make sure he knows what you're up to. I like to keep it light and playful. All I have to do is smart off a little and shake my bottom at him. Or stick my tongue out, give him a raspberry, or say "Hmph!" and the chase is on!
Dan's a true spanko so he's always looking for a chance for some spanking fun, but it helps if I let him know I want it as much as he does. He can't always chase after me so I've found fun ways to signal I'm in the mood.

As for movies, here's a link to a review Dan wrote about one I really liked. That might help you decide better than I could explain it. I know there were a couple of others I liked but I can't remember the names of the movies or where they came from. I'll work on finding some more, but I really liked that one.
